My name is Jim Juve, and I am running for Polk County Sheriff. I have been in law enforcement for 18 years; the past five have been with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office as a Patrol Deputy. Prior to working for
Polk County, I spent 10 years with the Clearbrook Police Department, with almost 9 of those years as Police Chief, managing both personnel and budgets. Even during my management experience, my duties in my 18 years of law enforcement have been on patrol, and I have been the lead Deputy/Officer investigating crimes leading to convictions of many criminal cases. Our country is experiencing difficult financial times that in turn affect Polk County, and the future may hold even more cutbacks before things turn around. One thing I believe a Sheriff can and should do to help with the budget is assist his Deputies and Investigators in the day-to-day operations of the Sheriff’s Office. As Polk County Sheriff I would not only fulfill my office duties and commitments, but I would assist the Patrol
Deputies, and the Investigators in their duties. It is very important to me to lead through example, and I believe working alongside our Deputies and Investigators would enhance the morale and productivity of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Having a Sheriff and administrative staff that is not only fulfilling their office duties but also assisting in those everyday duties would also help to cut down on overtime and shortages in coverage in the areas of Patrol and Investigations. I believe having all Sheriff’s Office personnel assist in this way would help to decrease criminal activity, as well as help with the management of decreasing budgets we need to work within.
The residents of Polk County need and deserve a Sheriff that cares about his staff, the financial well-being of the County and most of all, the well-being and safety of the residents that live here.
Please remember to vote in the Primary Election on August 10.
Thank you,
Jim Juve
